What are Airpods?
- The AirPods are a great device to enjoy a wireless listening experience and second generation does not speak new wireless headphones.
- Nothing changes externally, so we must look the news for inside, where we have a new wireless chip that improves the features that are less seen from Apple headphones.
- The charging box, now wireless, does present news.
- In Engadget, we have been testing them thoroughly for a few weeks, and this is our review of the new Apple Airpods.
Features of AirPods
1. Unchanged design and sound performance
- Only available in white and with a very characteristic elongated design that is widely imitated on the market.
- The Airpods have worked great for Apple with the current design and, like this aspect of the headphones more or less, the company has traced the play.
- It has also done so in a feature in which we did expect some evolution: the non-resistance to water or splashes.
- Whether due to the use that those who go out to do sports make of them or for pure hygiene, water resistance was something we expected in these new Airpods, it is out of the renovation.
2. External Design
- Indeed, the external design of the Airpods has not changed anything from the first to the second generation, so if you were comfortable with them, you would continue to do so.
- If the first generation ones weren’t just sitting still in your ears, then neither will they.
- In my case, the continuous feeling that they will end up falling from the ears remains, but it rarely happens.
Here, each one’s experience marks the result, and Apple opts for a unique design without serial adapters.
3. No noise reduction
- With more or less adjustment depending on the person, the Airpods are still very light.
- But that little adjustment in the ear will work(which, translates into a lot of comfort in day to day and relative discretion in its use).
- It means that they hardly isolate anything from the outside, neither passively nor of course actively.
4. Sound Controlling Function
- Despite that little physical grip when we wear them, making gestures does not entail any danger.
- Now that Siri no longer needs to be invoked by tapping on the headphones, we can assign those taps to other functions to control forward, backward, or play/pause the sound.
5. There are no more standard options
- Of those gestures on the headphones, I still miss the volume control, which would make sense to have integrated it somehow since it is the control element that has no direct physical response.
- And resorting to telling Siri to do it for us doesn’t quite convince me.
Using AirPods on Android
- Although Airpods focuses on the Apple ecosystem, nothing prevents them from using with other operating systems. For example, Android smartphones.
- We wouldn’t understand that they were the first choice for pure Android users, but it is feasible.
- With the new H1 chip, pairing is actually faster on Android, but Apple’s headphones still offer less functionality and interaction than in the iOS ecosystem.
- For example, if we do not pause audio when we remove the Airpods, but at least we can double-tap on them to pause or resume playback.
